DONE WITH FINALS!!!

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 5:41 PM

All done! I think I did...okay. Arabic may be a little interesting. I just wasn't sure about really anything. But I'm really happy to be on vacation. Going back to Massachusetts tomorrow! It will be my first time flying by myself. I'm a little nervous but Eugene airport is allegedly really small so I should be okay.

I haven't been doing too much lately, just watching stuff on hulu/youtube. But vacation's going to be so exciting! I've got a bunch of things planned and I'll try to post more.

Also, Within Temptation has a new single (that's not on itunes yet. ): ) called Utopia. You should look it up on youtube because it's fantastic and the music video is really sweet.

In Ethnic Studies

  • Dec. 2nd, 2009 at 4:39 PM

It's the last Ethnic Studies I have to sit through, fortunately. It's a pretty boring class, to be honest.

I've been under a whole lot of stress lately. We have a group presentation in Int'l Studies tomorrow and I think I'm going to have a meltdown. Because somehow I got elected leader. And creator of the powerpoint. So if something goes wrong, it's all on me. I am responsible for the grades of thirty people. Yikes. And this is on top of a take-home Ethnic Studes exam, a 10 page paper on Puritans and Corporal Punishment, studying for an Arabic speaking exam AND a written exam. And writing a reflection paper for getting caught in a room where people were drinking.

All I want to do is watch Forever Knight. Is that too much to ask?

Our RA posted a Stress information fact sheet. I fit nearly all of the warning signs. Headache, over eating, under eating, inability to concentrate. I'm fucked, in order words. So my plan for tonight is I'm going to go take a shower after class, and then we have a floor meeting, then work on the project for a while, then I'm going to watch an episode of FK, then I'm going to work on my Int'l Studies paper. Actually, as soon as I finish writing this, I'm going to work on it for a while during class. Because, let's be honest, I haven't paid attention for the entire term, why pay attention now? I don't have to go to Arabic class until Friday so I basically have nothing else to do.

Besides the presentation, which I'm trying not to think about. I've also got tickets to the Civil War game! (UO vs Oregon State University) But that's later at night and I can bring flashcards and go over Arabic when I'm there.

It's not a great plan, but it's a plan.

Sunday Dreams...

  • Nov. 8th, 2009 at 4:52 PM

I had the weirdest dream last night. I usually have pretty strange dreams but this one has stuck with me all day. And it was rather coherent, for my dreams. My dreams are usually along the lines of an acid trip, but this one was a lot more realistic.

I was sitting on this hill and it was really sunny outside. I was nervous, but I don't remember why. All of a sudden I was stabbed in my right shoulder, straight through, from the back to the front. I couldn't breathe, like my lungs were filled up with blood. I either don't remember, or the dream skipped from then to me running down a street with the wound patched up, running towards a library. I think I was looking for revenge or something, and I had shot someone. I don't really remember much after that but I was looking for someone else who was involved in this revenge scheme. It's really stuck with me all day, just that feeling of being really scared and then not being able to breathe. So weird.

I haven't had too much time to write my Nano, because of schoolwork, but I'm going to work on it tonight, after I study for Arabic. I just ate Indian food for the first time, very yummy.

Very Important News: I am officially going to Europe next summer! We're starting in Amsterdam then going to Berlin, Munich, Venice, and ending in Rome. I'm really excited, it's going to be awesome.

Well, I've really got to go study...quiz tomorrow, midterm Wednesday.

Clean Slates Are Good for the Soul

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 2:18 PM

It feels kind of nice, to start over. I did it earlier this fall when I moved to Oregon. But it's nice not to have all of those years of posts dragging me back. Some of them I really treasure because they capture moments in my life that I don't want to ever forget and I will probably transfer them over but there are so many that I've grown out of. So many entries that I now look at as stupid and juvenile and not me anymore. I'll leave those behind.

I guess I'll just jump right in then.

National Novel Writing Month started a few days ago and after much deliberation, I've decided to enter but not get too hung up on it. It's my first year in college and I don't want to overwhelm myself but midterms have just wrapped up and I took a pretty light course load this term. There's also the matter of Thanksgiving. Where I will be completely alone in the dorms for four days, and therefore will have plenty of time to write. But it's really no big deal if I don't get it done. I also have technically started my novel before the start date and therefore have 5550 words but that's not cheating...right?

The novel: OSS (Temporary Title...if anyone has suggestions, I'm open to them.)

Setting: WWII France (See obsession listed in the Author Info)

Basic Synopsis: Lily has just lost the love of her life to the Nazi's Final Solution. Instead of wallowing in her grief she goes to the British Special Operations Executive and volunteers to jump out of an airplane into Occupied France. Loosely based off the lives of real WWII female spies like Virginia Hall. Will probably screw around with history on the first draft.

Soundtrack:
-Main Titles (Instrumental) by Michael Kamen from Band of Brothers
-We Are by Ana Johnsson from Spiderman 2
-Breathe Me by Sia
-Into the Fire by Thirteen Senses
-Before It's Too Late by The Goo Goo Dolls from Transformers
-My Heart Will Go On by Celien Dion from Titanic (No making fun of me...)
-Hymn to the Sea by James Horner from Titanic
-Rose (Instrumental) by James Horner from Titanic
-New Divide by Linkin Park from Transformers II
-The Call by Regina Spektor from Chronicles of Narnia II
-Ich Wollt Ich Waer Ein Huhn by Lilian Harvey from Inglourious Basterds
-Davon Geht Die Welt Nicht Unter by Zarah Leander from Inglourious Basterds
-The Verdict by Ennio Morricone from Inglourious Basterds
-The Surrender by Ennio Morricone from Inglourious Basterds
-Un Amico by Ennio Morricone from Inglourious Basterds
-Rabbia e Tarantella by Ennio Morricone from Inglourious Basterds
-One Silver Dollar by The Film Studio Orchestra from Inglourious Basterds
-Tiger Tank by Lalo Schifrin
-The Man With the Big Sombrero by Samantha Shelton from Inglourious Basterds
-The Green Leaves of Summer by Nick Perito from Inglourious Basterds
-Sous le ciel de Paris by Edith Piaf
-Cri du Coeur by Edith Piaf
-Padam Padam by Edith Piaf
-Mon Dieu by Edith Piaf
-Non, je ne regrette rien by Edith Piaf

Location it will be written: Ethnic Studies 101 because that class is pretty damn boring.

I am also planning to go to Europe for a week or so next summer. A couple of friends are interested in coming with me but if they can't come for whatever reason, I'm going by myself. I am completely serious about this. I've already started planning.

Well, I'd better get to work on my novel. In other words, I have to go to Ethnic Studies class.

Nano Word Count: 5550
